Stop and identify the source

A few drops released while removing a saturated cartridge can be normal. Continued dripping after installation is not. Place a towel below the housing, stop dispensing, and determine whether water is coming from the cartridge connection, the housing, nearby tubing, or the dispenser.

If water is flowing steadily or reaching electrical components, shut off the refrigerator's water supply and follow the manufacturer's service guidance.

Common causes after a filter change

The cartridge may be only partially locked, an O-ring may be twisted or damaged, packaging may remain on the connection, or the replacement may be the wrong fit. Excess water pressure and a cracked filter head can also cause leakage.

  • Remove and reinstall the correct cartridge according to the manual.
  • Inspect seals for cuts, flattening, debris, or missing O-rings.
  • Compare the new part number with the manual and old genuine cartridge.
  • Never use tools or excessive force to seat a refrigerator filter.
  • Replace a damaged cartridge and contact service for a cracked housing.

Flush and inspect

Once the correct filter is locked, flush it using the appliance instructions. Air can cause sputtering during the first dispensing cycles. Watch the housing and the floor beneath the refrigerator throughout flushing.

If a properly matched filter repeatedly leaks, stop using the dispenser and have the filter head, water line, and pressure checked. Repeatedly trying cartridges will not repair a damaged housing.
