XWFE adds filter communication
GE's XWFE is designed for select GE, GE Profile, Café, and Monogram refrigerators and includes filter-status functionality used by certain appliances. XWF and XWFE may appear physically related, but the refrigerator's filter-recognition requirements can determine whether a substitution works correctly.
Use the complete appliance model in GE's official filter finder. If the refrigerator specifies XWFE, buy the specified part rather than assuming a lower-priced XWF listing will preserve all functions.
Symptoms of an incorrect match
An incorrect or unrecognized filter may lead to a filter error, disabled dispenser functions, leakage from an improper seal, or a cartridge that will not seat. Do not trim, transfer, or defeat components intended for filter recognition.
- Filter-status warning remains after reset
- Dispenser does not operate normally
- Cartridge does not lock with light hand pressure
- Water appears around the filter housing
A safer buying sequence
First record the refrigerator model. Second, use GE's official finder to identify XWFE, RPWFE, MWF, or another family. Third, compare the exact part number on the product page. Finally, inspect the package before opening it and keep the receipt until the filter is installed and flushed.
GE recommends replacing XWFE about every six months under regular use, or sooner if flow is noticeably reduced.
